Before the Rogue Festival, I will admit I had not heard of pc muñoz but there was a definite buzz about this performer in the media. So I did a little research, I read the Rogue program, and visited his MySpace profile. There I listened to selected musical works, and read excerpts from reviews by musicians as well as major media outlets. In particular, I was intrigued to find a review by the avant-garde composer and musician John Zorn.

The Suicide Lounge Anger Management Sessions

When I first looked at the Rogue 2008 Art Performance Program, I immediately identified Anger Management Sessions as I a show I wanted to see. Meanwhile, a college friend saw a Bulletin I had posted for Rogue and asked if she could tag along. As it turned out, she was also interested in going to the Anger Management Sessions, and so we made plans to catch the 7:30pm show @ Veni Vidi Vici’s.

As I started recommending this show to everyone I know, at first, I had difficulty describing it to people. Sure, there's a red nose involved, but is it clown-like?

It Could be Worse

just checked out “it could be worse,” and yeah, it could have been worse. but it could have been better. the acting was great. three dynamic women putting a lot of life into the roles. and the writing was pretty good. you really did feel like you were reading someone’s blog, which was the premise for the play.

Heavy Sugar Jazz Improv features vocalist Karen Marguth with Kevin Hill on bass (Sam Rocha played bass on one song), Jason Wanner on piano, Dustin Peterson on guitar, and Gary Newmark on drums (or "drum," more appropriately!).

Farewell to the Tooth Fairy

This show wasn't on my original list of shows to see because I wasn't sure I was in the mood for fairy tales this year. But then, *everyone* was talking about how great it was, and I learned that the stories weren't really fairy tales at all (I guess the "Tooth Fairy" in the title threw me off). Performer Lynn Ruth Miller tells both touching and funny autobiographical stories about growing up and growing old, holding nothing back. She is completely charming and captivating. Try to see one of her remaining shows.

PC Munoz's Left Hook

Great funk and spoken word. The instrumentals were tight, and the use of percussion and electronics were interesting (in a very good way). I was skeptical of PC's "One Word Poems," but that ended up being one of my favorite parts of the show. I also loved the catchy song called "Skin City," in which "He was kicked in the head by a stripper/Talk about thigh high boots to the kisser." Well, it might not translate as well in an on-line review, but it's a great song.

I thought the idea of doing a 1940s radio drama sounded like a neat concept, but I think they underutilized the genre. I was disappointed.
