CVPPAC Redefines Progressivism

The Central Valley Progressive Political Action Committee (CVPPAC) has released its list of endorsements for the June 3, 2008 Primary election and in the process has redefined the term progressive.

Following on the heels of its 2006 endorsement of Margaret Mims for Fresno County Sheriff, the CVPPAC continues to break ground towards constructing a new model for progressivism in the San Joaquin Valley.

Vermont Police Try To Arrest Socialist Presidential Candidate

Socialist Party USA Presidential Nominee Brian Moore was threatened with arrest Sunday afternoon by Brattleboro(Vermont) Police officers for petitioning in a supermarket parking lot to qualify on the presidential primary ballot of the Liberty Union Party of Vermont. The primary is scheduled for March 5th.

Progressives and Universal Suffrage

Liberals who choose to identify themselves as political progressives overwhelmingly fail the test when it comes to suffrage—the right to vote—and its application to non-citizens.

In the San Joaquin Valley where the percentage of non-citizens represents a significant portion of the general population, the denial of the vote is a discriminatory practice without justification. It exposes a propensity for the continuation of some of the worst aspects of the current social and political system—the perpetuation of racial and economic privilege being the most prominent.

November 28, 2007 - Today, the Peace and Freedom Party - with the assistance of the Greater Fresno Area Chapter of the ACLU - won a small but important victory for free speech and political organizations. The Fresno County Public Library has been continually denying the Peace and Freedom Party the right to use library facilities to hold its general meetings. The denial cited a Fresno County ordinance against using its facilities for campaign or political activity in connection with any election.

There are six political parties in the State of California. We have the Republican Party and Democratic Party and four 'other' parties - the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, the American Independent Party, and the Peace and Freedom Party.

For voters affiliated with California's four lesser known political parties and for the fast growing population of voters who choose to remain unaffiliated with any political party and consider themselves 'independents', 2008 is generating a lot of excitement and interest.

Peace and Freedom Party shows double digit gain in Fresno County

The latest voter registration statistics for Fresno County just released by the Secretary of State show an increase in numbers for all six of California's political parties as well as increases in those who decline to state party affiliation and those who choose a party unrecognized in California. The numbers here are not particularly interesting, however, since increases in registered voters are linked to increases in the population.
