Theatre Ventoux's King Lear delivers sharp intensity and timeless struggles

As I was talking about how much I enjoyed Theatre Ventoux's production of King Lear, someone asked if it was a period piece or set in the present day. The answer is both and neither. True to the original language, the production is laced with "Art thous" and other expected Shakespearean what have yous. The dress is of the present-day variety, but not distractingly so. The actors' basic white dress shirts and neckties mirror the timelessness of Shakespeare's themes (I concede that Shakespeare's themes are even more timeless than neckties, but you get the idea).

Theatre Ventoux’s Childe Byron delivers captivating, delicate intensity

By: Jessi Hafer

While Theatre Ventoux’s Childe Byron presents the stories of historical figures Lord Byron (poet and first-rate freak) and his estranged daughter Ada Lovelace (mathematician and one of the founders of computing), the play isn’t really about their notoriety. Instead, their infamy provides the backdrop for the relationship between a father and daughter whose paths had never crossed.

Dark Comedy and an Opportunity to Support High School Performing Arts Programs

By: Jessi Hafer

Aithon Theatre is presenting just three performances of the play True West this weekend.

True West considers the duality of human personality through two brothers: a Hollywood screenwriter and a small-time criminal. Director Philip Bryan explained that while the dark comedy has intense undertones, there are also funnier moments. The play has particular significance for Bryan. "It was the first play I ever read," Bryan explained. "It really started my passion for dark comedies."

Two more chances to see "Laughter on the 23rd Floor"

by Jessi Hafer

Aithon’s selection of a wonderful script and good performances ensure laughter in the Fresno Memorial Auditorium in their production of Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor. The play chronicles a smart and funny 1950s television show coping with of McCarthyism and crass commercialism.

Great things to do this weekend (June 16-17): Aithon Theatre’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor

By: Jessi Hafer

After attending a couple wonderful but very serious productions from a couple of local theatre companies, I’m definitely up for something funny – especially knowing that it’s coming from Aithon Theatre, who brought us the delightful and hilarious “The Complete History of America – Abridged” at Rogue 2007. This weekend, Aithon Theatre will be performing Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway hit, Laughter on the 23rd Floor. As described on the Aithon Theatre website:
