Daryl Hannah

“The more I learn, the more I am moved to take action.”
She first stole my heart in the 80’s, and since then I’ve become enamored all over again. She is not only the charter member of the Spotlight, but the inspiration behind its manifestation. A vegetarian since childhood, Daryl entered the Hollywood scene as an actress though she always kept a low, private profile from the press. She converted her El Camino to bio diesel in 2000, and began her career as an eco-activist on the Bill O’Reilly show of all places, appearing to promote alternative fuels just after 9-11. Since then, she… Helped set up the Sustainable Biofuels Alliance (SBA) and tours the world promoting sustainable standards for biofuels… Frequently travels to South America to consult with politicians and indigenous groups to help stop Oil Companies from contaminating the Amazon… Joined international human rights groups to go undercover to help rescue children and sex slaves from brothels in Bangkok as well as those smuggled into the US… Produced a documentary series on “extreme activists”… Consulted and helped numerous celebrities “green” their homes and vehicles… Was the last protester forcibly removed from a walnut tree and arrested on the infamous South Central Los Angeles Community farm in 2006, along with hundreds of activists… Maintains a website and “green” blog (dhlovelife.com), which focuses on healthy living, renewable energy, and sustainable organic farming. (She films and edits the videos herself.)… Lives most of the year on her farm in the Rocky Mountains (She’s an avid snowboarder too!) and relies on renewable energy, water from a spring, and food grown by herself. (While the home was being remodeled, Hannah stayed in a Tipi for almost two years.)… Has a couch made of lichen she rescued from a rock under the foundation of her house… Prefers playing board games with friends to the red carpet. In fact, Hannah and Hilary Shepard have invented and published two games, “Liebrary” and “Love It or Hate It.”
