We all Scream for La Reina De Michoacan
by irlandeso
About 2 years ago, when I came back to town an article was written about La Reina de Michoacan on the then independent website, fresnofamous.com. A community journalist named Tracy Newel took the time to write a beautiful piece on what has become my favorite place to get ice cream, La Reina de Michoacan. My first memories of La Reina were buying paletas in bulk to share with other friends, and I became really excited when I found out I could buy vegan paletas to share with my friends who were out protesting the Circus in 100 some odd degree weather. Recently I have fallen back in love with La Reina, and started dropping by more often instead of just drooling as I pass by.
La Reina offers around 15 different water based paletas which vegans can gobble up without even injuring a soybean, and around 20 cream or dairy based paletas. They also offer aguas frescas, all natural ice creams, and sundaes. Flavors vary all the time, though it’s a guarantee that you will have a difficult time deciding, you might find that rochambeaux comes in handy in making your choice.
La Reina is open all week long from 10am until 9pm. It’s located on Belmont, between Broadway and Fulton on the south side of the street. It’s relatively difficult to miss since the building is really bright and has a giant sign on the side of it. If you decide to drive there, just beware of parking on Belmont in front of the store, as I once had a FAX bus attack my car’s side mirror while it was parked on the street. (Park on the side or in back of the building for your car’s safety.)
