Suicide Bomber Attack Inside The Green Zone

green zone.jpg

In side the most heavily fortified area in the world a suicide bomber perpetrated an attack inside a parliament cafeteria. The bombing reportedly killed 8 people and wounded dozens more. The bomber reportedly was a security guard for one of the parliamentary members, not present during the attack. Initially the attack was said to be a lone act, but there have been further reports that two additional suicide vests were found within the Green Zone, as well as the fact that security cameras had been disabled.

Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice flanked by Arizona Senator and Presidential “Straight Talker” John McCain responded to the news by saying, “We've said there are going to be good days and bad days concerning the security plan but the commanders are carrying on their responsibilities and working to try to make the population more secure.
We're really just at the beginning of this and not at the end of it."

This latest attack has to have the administration as concerned as they have been at any point of the war in Iraq, especially as they have been trying to put a pretty face on the atrocities as well as the progress of the war. If as it seems the US offensive is losing control of the Green Zone then the civil war that the administration denies is happening may be further along than most believed.

As for the “Straight Talker,” Senator McCain, we’ll have to wait to see how he chooses to spin these events
