CENTRAL VALLEY WATER BOARD PROPOSES $129,000 IN PENALTIES TO CALIFORNIA DEPT OF GENERAL SERVICES, OFFICE OF STATE PUBLISHING

SACRAMENTO —The California Department of General Services, Office of State Publishing, faces $129,000 in penalties for violations of effluent limitations of contaminated groundwater into the American River at the north end of 7th Street in Sacramento.

The Assistant Executive Officer of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board issued the Administrative Civil Liability complaint for assessment of statutory mandatory minimum penalties for the violations.

The $129,000 represents the sum of the statutory penalties for violations that occurred from January 1, 2000 through March 31, 2008. The discharger violated the effluent limitations for arsenic, cadmium, copper, flow, iron, lead, nickel, pH, selenium, and temperature.

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board is a California state agency tasked with preservation and enhancement of quality in water resources. The board may consider the complaint at its regular public board meeting on October 23 or 24, 2008.
