Will there soon be an alternative to jury duty?

If you really would rather not perform jury duty but you would like a few extra bucks in your pocket, then there just may be something coming down the road that may be of interest to you.

California Assemblymember Bob Huff has recently introduced a bill (Assembly Bill 1828) that would excuse a prospective juror, upon request, who has served on a statewide or local election day as a precinct officer or precinct board member during the previous 12 months.

In Fresno County, a person serving as a precinct officer earns $150.00 to $175.00 for work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until all duties are completed (approximately 9:30 p.m.) plus a 2-hour mandatory training class.

Mr. Huff's bill seems like a good idea. We certainly need more precint workers.
